A guided Vermont hiking or walking trip is a perfect adventure for people who want an active, challenging, and rewarding vacation experience while meeting others with similar interests. Our groups are small - not larger than twelve. We enjoy 6 - 9 miles of Vermont's best trails per day, often with options for longer or shorter hikes, making each day rewarding for everyone. Each trip includes a variety of scenery and terrain, ranging from secluded glacial lakes to panoramic views from more challenging mountain paths. Evenings are spent around a centerpiece dinner at a welcoming Vermont country inn with its own distinct personality. Our experienced interpretive naturalist guides add knowledge, interest, and value to your Vermont vacation.

2010 LONG WEEKENDERS

Again in 2010, we will serve as the partner in the field for a major international travel vendor on a series of three-night inn to inn guided hikes in the Moosalamoo National Recreation Area of Vermont. If a guided weekend getaway is a better fit for your schedule, please phone or email us for details on this very popular trip. We will operate ten departures in July, August, September, and October 2010. About half run Thursday through Sunday, and half run Friday through Monday, with a special midweek trip during peak fall foliage. Long Weekenders book from $865 ppdo; $1164 ppso.

SUMMER 2010 GUIDED HIKING DEPARTURES

July, August, and September find our local guides leading guests from all over the country: each month of the summer we offer our popular three, four, and five night guided hiking tours. Home to some of the prettiest footpaths in New England, the Green Mountain National Forest and the adjoining historic Champlain Valley offer an up close experience of the best of Vermont. Accommodations and dining are at the gracious antique country inns in our network and provide a welcome atmosphere to comfort body and soul after a day on the trails. All guided trips have a minimum enrollment of 4 and a maximum enrollment of 12.

FALL 2010 GUIDED HIKING DEPARTURES - Autumn in Vermont

October means Vermont. The change of the leaves brings an array of different perspectives each season: the muted colors that glow on an overcast afternoon; the dazzling vibrancy of the maples in bright sunshine against a halcyon sky; the swirl of dry leaves caught in a vortex at a blustery dusk. In October our guided trips use the same format and stay at the same inns as our summer trips above, but they do fill fastest, so it may be best not to dawdle.

ADD A GUIDED DAY OR TWO TO A SELF-GUIDED TRIP

Many of our guests have requested a day or two with a guide as part of their longer customized self-guided vacation. We are delighted to offer per-diem guiding again this season. This represents an excellent way to experience the best of both worlds: the knowledge and connection of hiking with a local expert fit into the freedom and independence of a custom-designed self-guided vacation. This is also less costly than a traditional guided tour, as the guide will meet you after breakfast, hike with you during the day with a break for lunch together, and will return you to your inn in time for dinner. You may request (subject to availability) a guide to match your interests: one with particular knowledge of birding, cultural/literary topics, or a general interpretive naturalist. For two people, add $75 per person per day; for groups of three or more, add $50 per person per day for dedicated service by one of our local guides. Guide service is in demand and must be booked in advance.

CUSTOM GUIDED TRIPS

If you have a group of two to two dozen interested in a guided hiking trip, we are delighted to customize a trip just for you. This gives you the ability to choose your own dates and participate in developing the itinerary. We'll make all the arrangements for lodging, guides, and transportation between inns; you come and enjoy. Planning as much in advance as possible will help us give you exactly what you want. All rates quoted are per person based on double occupancy (ppdo). This is the rate one person will pay if two are sharing a room. Single accommodations are available by paying the single supplement, reflected in the ppso pricing.
